Water surge tragedy: Another body found (Updated)


PETALING JAYA: Rescuers have found the body of another victim who was among 10 people washed away while picnicking at the Air Putih waterfall in Kemaman, Terengganu on Sunday (June 2).

Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department Zone 2 head Azman Alias said villagers found the body at about 7.45am on Tuesday (July 4).

"The body was found about 12km from the location of the incident.

"It was retrieved from the river at about 8.15am and taken to the Air Putih Polis SAR Operation Control Centre," he said.

The identity of the victim found behind Masjid Dadong, has since been confirmed as 18-year-old Putri Balqis Izzati Abdul Rahman by the next of kin.

Three more victims still remain missing. They are are Putri Alleya Maisarah Karim, 16; Putri Nor Fatin Karim, 14; and Muhammad Fikri Saliman, 24.

On Sunday, 10 people, nine of them from a family from Felda Lepar Hilir, Pahang, were picnicking at the waterfall before being swept away by a water surge.

As of Monday, six victims had been found.
